CLARIFICATION OF PURPOSE
This message is to
reiterate that we will be having an NCORE Research Forum on February 19th to
highlight and share with each other our coral reef related research. This
will serve as a "get to know each other" event for the UM coral reef
community and should be looked at as the first step in developing
collaborative research opportunities. This follows from the recognition
that the talent pool for reef studies at UM is tremendous (the largest on
the continent), but would benefit from more synergism within the community.
We hope that this forum will allow an assessment of our strengths and the
chance for the future development of interdisciplinary proposals. The
"community" includes anyone, from any division, with research having coral
reef related implications.
DO NOT MISS THIS
OPPORTUNITY to learn, educate and participate. It is up to you to make your
voice heard by submitting your abstract and presenting your work.
ABSTRACT DEADLINE EXTENDED! Please send abstracts (single page,
12 pt Times Roman Font) by 5PM Thursday Feb. 10 to Benita Chin
([email protected]).
ORGANIZATION
Based on the
submissions, we have decided to group the talks into panels of speakers,
each speaker having a 10 minute presentation. Each panel session will be
followed by a 20 minute discussion focused more on future opportunities
than on questions of methodology and interpretation. This format will
allow us to include an optimal number of speakers and still address the
need for developing synergy.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
For the
meeting to be successful, all of us need to read the abstracts closely
and if necessary, to contact authors for answers to specific questions
about their abstract. Coming with this advanced preparation is key to
the success of the Forum. This first-ever meeting of RSMAS reef
researchers is a special opportunity. Please carefully prepare your own
presentation and critically read all the abstracts.
All
those who plan to use power point are reminded that they must limit the
number of images to a maximum of ten and preferably fewer.
